For those that enjoy the features offered by the Yahoo! Widgets you might at some point find yourself in a situation similar to what I experienced today. Somehow, perhaps with my two monitor goodness, and goofing that up by logging into our VPN, I tried to open up the Converter widget, and it never showed up on the screen.
After a bit of digging I at least found out how to reset the widget’s position, even though I didn’t find out why it disappeared. If you find that launching a widget gives you a non-visible widget, you may wish to try the following.
Open Regedit (Start -> Run -> Regedit)
Browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Yahoo\WidgetEngine
Find the folder with the name of the widget. Under this folder will likely be a folder named Windows.
Under the Windows folder there should be a main folder. Open this.
For those that know me it comes as no surprise to learn I grew up in a hick town in north-east Texas. And in that area I have certainly seen my share of interesting hick-culture. I had not, however, seen anything quite like a Big Lots, which I just had the pleasure of going to tonight.
Why was I there? Well, my girlfriend had apparently purchased some items there, and wished to return them, so I’m along for the ride. My first observation upon arriving is that the parking lot at this store is a mess. Holes everywhere. The parking lots of the neighboring stores where fine, but this one was jacked up.
Then we go inside. Wow. What a white-trash mess. Oh sure, there’s signs that indicate that organization was though about, but it is certainly an afterthought. I think what struck me the most was how some items were just mixed in with the most unlikely shelf-fellows.
Want a toaster? Just look next to the car stereos. Need a good watch? There’s tables full of them right next to the seasonal Christmas items. And guess what was between a mini pull wagon and lawn furniture. A chainsaw.
Two reasons for my excitement this morning, and I shall sum them up promptly: Lord of the Rings Online content update, and Street Fighter IV. That’s right, you heard it. Street Fighter IV! I LOVED the old Street Fighter games. I grew up playing those in the arcades all day long, and then on my Super Nintendo. Pimp times.
And to make it even better this month Turbine will be releasing their next major content update, Bood 11, for Lord of the Rings Online. This update features grand coolness like player and kinship housing, complete with furnishings and vendor discounts, and even taxidermy. Also on the docket are new quests, and a brand new 12 player raid instance in which you face off with a Balroq! Rock on!
Yay! My main character in Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar just reached level 40! Woo hoo! Soon I shall be a level 50 champion renown throughout Middle Earth! :p
For those of us that play video games, raise your hand if you remember playing Diablo and Diablo II. Yeah, me too. What AWESOME games! The action + rpg elemnts made it a fantastical addiction that kept many a gamer up well past their bed time.
Well, I’m not sure how I missed this game a year ago, but Titan Quest is JUST like it! Same ISO view, same controls, same game elements. I’m finding it quite entertaining. The graphics are pretty good, and the gameplay is as good as ever. I’ve encountered a couple of bugs in multiplayer, such as the other player simply appearing stuck on your screen, yet they are moving on theirs.
If you got $20 extra bucks give it a go, and relive the old Diablo days!
Just wanted to share a small discovery I made to those out there who may be wishing to setup their own WordPress blog site. I use GoDaddy hosting (which I’d like to say is excellent, as is their customer service) with Linux and PHP, and as you can see I use WordPress for my blog publishing.
Just the other day I was attempting to setup yet another WordPress blog on my girlfriend’s new site, www.maryanneanello.com, and to my dismay found that the visual editor was not working when she would attempt to write blog entries.
Well I discovered that because I was using the free hosting GoDaddy offers for those with existing hosting accounts and enough hosting credits, it was putting a banner ad at the top of the page. This banner’s Javascript was apparently messing up the TinyMCE visual editor WordPress uess.
So here’s a tip. Gonna use WordPress and want the visual editor? Gonna use free GoDaddy hosting? Well, ya can’t. Pay the $4/month and get it over with.
I went to Fry’s Electronics tonight in search of a second guitar for my Guitar Hero 2 game. This is prompted by the fact that I was under the impression that my current second guitar was broken. Notice I said “impression”. Turns out a lot of the third party guitars simply do not work with Guitar Hero 2! And Fry’s has them up EVERYWHERE while promoting Guitar Hero 2. How do I know they don’t work? I actually took the guitar out of the box, plugged it in to their display, and tested it. Same behavior as mine, the green button doesn’t work.
And go figure, they don’t sell JUST the first party guitar. <_< BAH!
Ok, that was just plain odd. I’m working on our Jedi Academy server, messing with administration permissions and such, and I setup a temporary password to get in the server for while I’m working on it. This is to prevent people from getting in because I was starting and stopping the server every time I tested a change. When I went back and commented out the password command variable it wouldn’t go away! I tried everything I could think of!! What did I have to do? Had to set the password variable to blank, and it suddenly worked. <_< GAH!
